About the Makers: Ko’olau

Our featured Hawaiian ukulele maker this season is Ko’olau. Ko’olau Guitar and Ukulele was founded in 1995 by Mr. John Kitakis. It was originally located in Kane’ohe on O’ahu, Hawai’i. Ko’olau was well known for both making wonderful guitars and ukuleles, as well as being the only authorized Martin repair facility in the islands.  They currently are located in Wahiawa, near Dole on the island of O’ahu.  All ukuleles have been strictly handmade, the majority by the current owner, Noa Bonk, the second generation to run Ko’olau.  He has recently been joined by his son Taj, who specializes in the custom inlay work adorning their instruments, continuing the family tradition.  Please see our selection of Ko’olau ukuleles here.

The Ko’olau family of ukuleles features a variety of makes and models. The 1 and 100 series provide all of the precision and playability you could want, with a more accessible entry point. The DLX and CS models offer all of the appointments that a ukulele aficionado could desire. World class instruments that offer beauty, touch, tone, and durability. The TE-1 and T-AE series offer semi and fully routed options for acoustic/electric fun, as well as more control when recording, playing out, or just jamming with your ukulele friends.

We are proud to offer a wide selection of Ko’olau ukuleles. Sopranos, concerts, tenors, pineapples, and baritones are all in stock! That’s right, over twenty Ko’olau ukuleles to choose from. We look forward to receiving your inquiry. Now is a great opportunity to add a Ko’olau to your ukulele ‘ohana.
